Ministry of Interior comments on electoral recount petition

Anastasia Anthousi has filed a petition with the Electoral Court requesting a recount of votes from a specific ballot box in Nikitari, Nicosia district. Elikkos Ilias, Director General of the Ministry of the Interior, confirmed that the ministry will comply if the Supreme Court orders a recount. He noted that if no changes occur following a potential recount, the existing results will remain in place. If errors are identified, the court will determine the necessary subsequent actions. Ilias expressed concerns regarding the current electoral system, specifically highlighting issues with the second distribution of seats. He cited the recent parliamentary elections, where seat allocations shifted rapidly between districts and parties. Consequently, he advocated for a review of the electoral framework by the House of Representatives to address these procedural concerns.
