Man arrested for hate crime stabbing in Utah
On Monday, a 48-year-old man named Peter Michael Larsen stabbed a Muslim employee at a kiosk in the Valley Fair Mall in West Valley City, Utah. According to police, the victim sustained multiple stab wounds. Bystanders intervened and restrained the suspect until law enforcement arrived. Court documents indicate that Larsen admitted to targeting the victim based on his religion and expressed an intent to kill other Muslims. The suspect is currently in custody, facing charges of attempted murder and the use of a prohibited dangerous weapon. Police have classified the incident as a hate crime, noting that the suspect posed a significant risk to the public due to his self-described planning of mass casualty events. Imam Shoaib Din of the Islamic Center of Utah stated that the suspect approached the victim, asked for his name and religion, and requested water before launching the attack.
