Larnaca to begin construction of new municipal headquarters at old hospital site

The Municipality of Larnaca has announced the commencement of the project to restore the listed old hospital building on Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue to serve as the city’s new headquarters. This decision follows more than two decades of municipal operations being conducted from an apartment building above a fast-food outlet. A contract-signing ceremony with the successful contractor is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, at 7:30 pm, in the old hospital's courtyard. Mayor Andreas Vyras stated that the project, which faced over three years of delays, will provide the city with a modern facility. The construction budget is set at €8,789,000 plus VAT, with an additional 15% allowance for unforeseen expenses. Funding is primarily sourced through a municipal loan facilitated by the government and the European Investment Bank. Furthermore, €4 million will be contributed through the sale of municipal land on Ermou Street. The project aims to consolidate services and create a landmark in the city’s historic center.
