Cyprus announces 65-member delegation for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow
The Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOE) has confirmed a 65-member delegation for the 23rd Commonwealth Games, taking place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The team consists of 36 athletes—23 male and 13 female—who will compete in six sports, including athletics, judo, artistic gymnastics, swimming, weightlifting, and para weightlifting. President George Chrysostomou announced that Cyprus secured three additional athlete spots following a formal request to the organizers. The total cost for the mission is estimated at €100,000, supplemented by a €27,000 grant from the Commonwealth Sport Team Preparation programme. This funding supports the participating federations and the Cyprus National Paralympic Committee. The event will feature over 3,000 athletes from 74 nations, marking the largest Games since 2014. Authorities emphasized that these games are a core part of their ongoing strategy to invest in national sports development.
