Democratic Party leaders meet with President Christodoulides to negotiate cabinet representation
The secretariat of the Democratic Party (DIKO) is holding a new meeting with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, to redefine their political relationship. This session follows two previous meetings held to address ongoing disagreements between the party and the government. DIKO leader Nikolas Papadopoulos is seeking a significantly increased presence for his party within the cabinet. Specifically, the party is requesting a total of four ministries and two deputy ministries, which would represent nearly half of the government structure. Among these requests, DIKO is specifically targeting either the Ministry of Finance or the Ministry of Interior. Furthermore, the party is seeking control over the leadership positions of various semi-governmental organizations. While recent discussions have been described as having a positive climate, these specific demands remain significant points of contention.
