President Christodoulides meets with DIKO leadership regarding cabinet reshuffle
President Nikos Christodoulides held a series of meetings with the secretariat of the Democratic Party (DIKO), led by Nikolas Papadopoulos, to discuss the upcoming cabinet reshuffle and cooperation between the government and the party. During these consultations, President Christodoulides reportedly rejected requests from DIKO to take control of the Ministry of Finance or the Ministry of Interior, expressing satisfaction with the performance of current ministers Makis Keravnos and Konstantinos Ioannou. DIKO leadership has advocated for an increased presence in the cabinet, requesting a larger share of ministries and positions in semi-governmental organizations, citing their role as the primary party supporting the government. To address coordination issues, both sides have agreed to establish a framework for weekly meetings at three different levels, involving the President and the party leader, government officials, and parliamentary members. The discussions also come in light of the scheduled departure of the Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou. Additionally, on July 15, President Christodoulides held an unscheduled 10-minute meeting with the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, during his visit to the Parliament.
