DISY proposes legislative amendments to accelerate tax dispute resolution
On July 9, 2026, Fotini Tsiridou, a member of the DISY party and chair of the Legal Affairs Committee, submitted a legislative proposal to amend the Assessment and Collection of Taxes Laws of 1978. The proposal aims to reduce bureaucratic delays and streamline the resolution of tax disputes between taxpayers and the Tax Commissioner. Under the current legal framework, the Tax Commissioner has up to twelve months to request additional information from a taxpayer, a period that would be reduced to six months under the new proposal. Additionally, the timeframe for the Tax Commissioner to issue a decision on a tax objection would be shortened from three years to eighteen months. The bill also proposes reducing the deadline for submitting reports and data to the Tax Council during hierarchical appeals from three months to two months. The goal is to minimize prolonged legal disputes and improve the efficiency of tax administration procedures. The Legal Affairs Committee is expected to begin an article-by-article review of the proposed changes shortly.
