Trial begins for 30-year-old father following death of two children in Xylophagou

The trial of a 30-year-old Bulgarian national began today before the Sovereign Base Areas Court regarding the death of his two sons, aged 8 and 10, on June 28. The children were found deceased inside a vehicle near their home in Xylophagou. The defendant faces charges of causing death through reckless and negligent acts. The proceedings are being conducted via video conference with a senior judge based in the United Kingdom, though future sessions may involve the physical presence of a judge from Britain. Investigative findings from the British Bases CID suggest the father did not return home after work as claimed but went elsewhere, leading to more serious charges. The defense lawyer, Andriana Klaidi, states that her client denies all charges and claims the children were left under supervision, contradicting police evidence. While the 38-year-old partner of the defendant was initially arrested, she was released unconditionally. The court has previously denied requests for the father's release, and he remains in custody.
