Blue Flag status awarded to Cyprus beaches and marinas for 2026
The Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (Cymepa) announced that 46 beaches and two marinas have been awarded the Blue Flag for 2026. Data discrepancies exist between reports, with some sources citing 46 beaches and others mentioning a total of 56. The award criteria include bathing water quality, safety, environmental management, and sustainable coastal development. The distribution of awarded beaches is 27 in Famagusta, 13 in Paphos, three in Larnaca, and three in Limassol, while both Limassol and Ayia Napa marinas were recognized. Regarding accessibility, 25 of the awarded beaches provide facilities for people with mobility issues, with 16 in Famagusta, four in Paphos, three in Larnaca, and two in Limassol. Additionally, eight beaches are equipped with the Seatrac system for autonomous sea access. Local municipal testing in Geroskipou confirmed that the water quality at their three Blue Flag beaches is excellent. The European Commission has previously ranked Cyprus highly for its bathing water quality.
