Protests in Ukraine follow the dismissal of defence minister Mykhailo Fedorov

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, a 35-year-old official known for his focus on technology and anti-corruption initiatives. The decision has triggered public protests in Kyiv and other cities, where demonstrators gathered to demand an explanation. Fedorov stated at a press conference that his removal followed tensions with Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, accusing the general of blocking ministry initiatives. Fedorov confirmed he declined an offer to serve as an advisor to the president. Meanwhile, Serhiy Koretsky has been approved as the new prime minister following the resignation of Yuliia Svyrydenko. Lawmakers are scheduled to vote on the appointment of Ihor Klymenko, the current interior minister, as the new defence minister. A senior air war commander has resigned in response to the cabinet reshuffle. The President has not yet issued a formal public statement regarding the reasons for Fedorov's departure.
