Cyprus electricity market stakeholders discuss reforms to reduce energy costs

On Wednesday, the Cyprus Electricity Market Association (SAH) participated in a workshop organized by the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) to address high energy costs. Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianos, attended alongside key stakeholders in the energy sector. The discussions focused on accelerating energy reforms, developing storage infrastructure, and reducing production curtailments from renewable energy sources. Participants also addressed the implementation of dynamic pricing models and the acceleration of critical energy projects. The SAH highlighted existing market distortions that prevent independent suppliers from offering competitive prices to consumers. Consequently, the association called for immediate intervention by the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) to resolve these operational issues. The meeting aimed to foster a dialogue on achieving a more competitive electricity market for households and businesses in Cyprus.
