Legal developments in two separate criminal cases in Larnaca

In the first case, a 36-year-old man of African descent remains in custody following charges of kidnapping, threatening two women with a knife, and unlawful entry at a Larnaca apartment on March 25, 2026. His trial is scheduled for July 27, when he is expected to enter a plea. In a separate case, two men aged 41 and 33 have been sent to the Larnaca Criminal Court for trial on October 7, 2026, regarding attempted armed robberies at a bank in Kiti on June 19 and a jewelry store in Larnaca on July 6. The 41-year-old is a European citizen, while the 33-year-old is a third-country national. They face charges including armed robbery, possession of explosives, firearm possession, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Defense attorneys for the two men objected to their continued detention, arguing that the evidence is insufficient, as DNA and fingerprint analyses failed to link the suspects to the crime scenes. Defense lawyer Adriana Klaedes further noted that eyewitness descriptions of the suspects as being in their twenties do not match her client. The court is expected to rule on Friday whether the two suspects will remain in custody until their October trial.
