Eurostat reports on expected working life duration in 2025
According to 2025 Eurostat data, the expected duration of working life in Cyprus is 39.5 years for individuals aged 15 and over. This figure reflects the total time a person is expected to be economically active, including periods of employment and active job seeking. Cyprus stands two years above the European Union average of 37.5 years, which has increased from 37.2 years in 2024. Within Cyprus, the expected duration is 42.1 years for men and 36.7 years for women, a gap of 5.4 years. Across the EU, the average working life has risen by 2.3 years since 2016. Seven member states reported an average duration of 40 years or more, led by the Netherlands with 44 years, while the shortest durations were recorded in Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria. Across the EU, men are expected to work for 39.5 years on average, compared to 35.4 years for women.
