PASYDY requests consultation on proposed public sector sick leave regulations
The General Secretary of the public servants' union PASYDY, Stratis Matthaiou, has called for formal consultation regarding the Ministry of Justice's proposal to reform sick leave regulations in the public and broader public sector. The proposed legislation, introduced by Minister of Justice and Public Order Kostas Fytiris, aims to address the issue of potential abuse of sick leave. While the union stated it supports efforts to curb misuse of the system, Matthaiou emphasized that the organization will not accept the abolition of established rights. The union expressed specific concern regarding the impact of any changes on chronically ill employees. Matthaiou confirmed that the union is open to dialogue with the government and plans to contact Minister Fytiris to receive further details on the legislative intent. No unilateral actions should be taken, according to the union, until a proper consultative process has been completed.
