Anti-Corruption Authority defends investigation into State Mafia book

The Independent Authority Against Corruption in Cyprus has issued a clarification regarding the investigation into the book 'State Mafia'. The Authority addressed public criticism concerning the impartiality of the process and the validity of the final report approved by its members. It rejected claims that decisions were made solely by the Commissioner, emphasizing that all decisions are collective and recorded in minutes. Regarding the appointment of Australian lawyer Gabrielle McIntyre as lead investigator, the Authority stated it evaluated approximately 25 candidates from international organizations and Greece. The aim was to appoint a foreign expert with no prior ties to Cyprus to ensure total objectivity. The Authority explicitly stated that it found no conflict of interest regarding Ms. McIntyre, noting that her selection was validated by the President of the International Criminal Court. With the final report now submitted to the Attorney General, the Authority considers its involvement in this matter concluded. Other state institutions are now responsible for any further actions.
