Wildfire contained in Pyrga, Larnaca district
A large wildfire broke out on July 19, 2026, in the Evkali area of Pyrga, Larnaca, prompting the Forestry Department to activate the 'Astrapi' emergency plan. Over 20 firefighting vehicles and various aerial assets were deployed to manage the blaze, supported by crews from the Fire Service. The fire affected approximately 20 hectares of land, including pine trees, reeds, and agricultural crops. While the flames reached the yards of some residential properties, authorities confirmed that no houses were damaged and no injuries occurred. The Forestry Department spokesman, Glafkos Kyriakou, described the event as a major operation. Firefighting teams remained on-site throughout the night to perform monitoring and prevent potential reignition. An investigation into the causes of the fire is currently underway.
