Recent wildfires in Cyprus managed by emergency services
On July 18, 2026, at 17:37, a fire broke out at the Pedagogical Academy National Forest Park in Aglantzia, Nicosia. The fire, which consumed approximately 1.5 decares of low vegetation, was brought under full control by 18:10 by eight Forestry Department personnel and three fire service members. Additionally, on July 17, 2026, a separate fire occurred in the buffer zone of Kokkinotrimithia near an abandoned shoe factory. This incident resulted in five decares of burned wild vegetation, waste, and wooden pallets, and involved two large old gas cylinders that required preventive cooling. Emergency operations in Kokkinotrimithia included four fire engines, two volunteer groups (Atlas and Support Cy), a UN tanker, and an aerial asset. Simultaneously, on the morning of July 17, another fire burned three decares of land behind the Deryneia amphitheater. The causes for these fires remain under investigation, and authorities have issued water conservation warnings for areas near Kokkinotrimithia due to firefighting demands.
