Motorcyclists mark 30th anniversary of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou deaths

Cypriot motorcyclists are completing a ten-day journey across Greece to mark the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou. The mission was organized by the Isaac and Solomos Memory Initiative. Isaac and Solomou were killed during anti-occupation demonstrations in the UN buffer zone near Deryneia on August 11 and 14, 1996. Isaac died after being attacked by a group of people, while the demonstrations were marked by significant violence, including the use of stones and iron bars. Eyewitness accounts describe the events as highly traumatic, highlighting the ongoing political tensions related to the 1974 occupation of Northern Cyprus. The event serves as a memorial to the activists who lost their lives while protesting in the buffer zone. The initiative aims to keep the memory of these deaths alive three decades later.
