President Christodoulides reaffirms vision for Cyprus to host international sporting events

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides reiterated his ambition for Cyprus to co-host a FIFA World Cup in a recorded message during a meeting of the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) board. Addressing recent criticism regarding the feasibility of such a goal, the President defended his position by emphasizing that the country must set high targets. He argued that Cyprus has the capacity and human resources to successfully organize major international events. As evidence of these capabilities, he cited the country's successful hosting of the EuroBasket tournament and its past presidency of the Council of the European Union. Critics had previously suggested that the country should focus on smaller competitions, such as the European Championship, before aiming for the World Cup. The President maintained that his goals are realistic and achievable based on past performance. The statement was made during the presentation of the KOA's administrative review.
