President Christodoulides reaffirms vision for hosting World Cup in Cyprus

President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides has reiterated his intention for the country to pursue the co-hosting of a future FIFA World Cup. This statement was made during a video message delivered at the annual report presentation of the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) board. The President addressed public criticism regarding his previous remarks on this subject, where some suggested the nation should focus on smaller events like the European Championship instead. Christodoulides argued that the country must set ambitious goals and maintains that it possesses the necessary human resources and organizational capability. He cited past successful experiences, such as the hosting of the EuroBasket and the presidency of the Council of the European Union, as evidence of Cyprus's capacity to manage large-scale international events. The President concluded that his objectives are realistic and that the nation's personnel and infrastructure are sufficient to deliver successful major tournaments.
