US delegation visits Cyprus to discuss Visa Waiver Program progress
A high-level delegation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, led by Under Secretary Rob Law, visited Cyprus on July 13-14. During the visit, the delegation met with Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, Deputy Minister of Migration Nicolas Ioannides, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Director General Theodora Constantinidou. The primary objective of the meetings was to evaluate Cyprus's progress in meeting the requirements for the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. Both parties discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation regarding border security and efforts to combat illegal migration. The U.S. Embassy in Nicosia highlighted that securing borders remains a top priority for the administration of President Donald Trump. Officials emphasized that collaboration with international partners is essential to prevent criminals and terrorists from entering the United States. The U.S. side continues to monitor Cyprus's compliance efforts as part of the formal evaluation process for potential inclusion in the visa-free travel program. The talks concluded with a mutual commitment to continue working toward the completion of the necessary requirements.
