Thailand suspends nearly 6,000 civil servants over examination fraud
Authorities in Thailand have suspended 5,924 civil servants following the discovery of widespread irregularities in recruitment and promotion examinations. The investigation, which began in June, revealed that officials allegedly accepted bribes of up to 780,000 baht (approximately $23,800) to electronically alter exam results. Interior Ministry official Uthit Sambuntharath stated that more than 200,000 papers were audited to identify the affected personnel. Police have arrested three individuals suspected of orchestrating the scheme, charging them with the destruction and concealment of official documents. While the affected employees have been suspended, the government has not yet clarified if they will face demotion or termination. The final list of suspended staff is expected to be finalized next week. No decision has been made regarding the potential re-administration of the affected exams.
