Cabinet approves €95 million Limassol Mall project in Agios Athanasios

On Thursday, the Cypriot Cabinet approved a planning derogation for a €95 million mall in Agios Athanasios, rejecting a rival application from Atterbury Europe. The project, developed by C.A.C. Papantoniou Ltd and a consortium including the Zorbas, PHC, Athienitis, and VLM groups, will be located near an existing Jumbo store. The facility will cover 76,392 square metres, featuring approximately 90 shops, a cinema, various dining options, and 1,278 parking spaces. Government officials justified the decision citing progress on the regulatory plan for Agios Athanasios Avenue, although critics note there is no fixed timeline for the road works. Local business owners and municipal authorities have strongly opposed the project, warning of severe traffic congestion and negative impacts on the traditional city centre. The approval grants discretionary zoning rights, despite concerns regarding the saturation of the area's road network. Proponents suggest the site's commercial planning zone status was a key factor in the final selection process.
