Police seize nitrous oxide in Ayia Napa operation
On July 18, 2026, members of the drug squad (Ykan) and the riot police (MMAD) conducted a coordinated operation in the Ayia Napa nightclub district. Acting on judicial warrants, officers inspected four premises during the night. The search resulted in the discovery of 1,423 containers of nitrous oxide, often referred to as laughing gas, which is a controlled Class B substance. Additionally, authorities confiscated 455 balloons and three metal canisters associated with the consumption of the gas. Two individuals were arrested on charges of illegal possession of a controlled drug. The Ayia Napa police station is currently continuing its investigation into the matter. While some reports noted the search occurred at four locations, investigators confirmed that the illicit materials were found in three of the four premises inspected.
