Authorities order removal of illegal caravan encampment on Larnaca beach
The Larnaca District Administration, under instructions from the Ministry of Interior, has issued 27 notices for the immediate removal of illegal caravans, wooden structures, and permanent installations from a beach adjacent to the Larnaca Nautical Club. Reports indicate that individuals have occupied public space, effectively restricting public access, creating nuisance, and installing improvised toilets in an area slated for the 'Land of Tomorrow' project. Following public outcry and complaints that bathers were being prevented from accessing the shore, officials intervened on July 18, 2024, to serve notices with police assistance. The authorities warned that if the structures are not removed, they will conduct an forced eviction and recover all associated costs from the offenders. The land in question is reported to be private property owned by 12 individuals, which had previously caused jurisdictional confusion. This is the second such cleanup operation in two years, as a similar intervention occurred in the same location two years prior. Potential legal action for public nuisance, illegal intervention, and property damage remains under consideration.
