Rena Dourou elected president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group

Rena Dourou was elected president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group on July 18. She was the sole candidate for the position after Pavlos Polakis withdrew his candidacy. The voting process involved eight SYRIZA deputies, including Giannis Amanatidis, Nikos Pappas, Pavlos Polakis, Theofilos Xanthopoulos, Elena Akrita, Giorgos Papailiou, Christos Giannoulis, and Dourou herself. The election results showed seven votes in favor and one blank ballot. In her initial statements, Dourou emphasized the goal of regenerating the party and called for unity, stating that no member should be left behind. She highlighted the necessity of rebuilding the parliamentary group to address the needs of Greek society. Dourou, born in 1974, is an experienced politician who previously served as the regional governor of Attica and holds a background in political science and sociology.
