Cyprus stadium safety inspection report reveals widespread failures

A police inspection conducted in early June identified significant security deficiencies across seven major stadiums in Cyprus. Currently, only the Alpha Mega Stadium in Limassol and the AEK Arena have received full approval. The GSP Stadium remains pending while authorities assess improvements made to its CCTV systems. Four other venues, namely Antonis Papadopoulos, Ammochostos Epistrofi, Stelios Kyriakides, and Katokopia Epistrofi, failed the initial inspections. Key issues identified include inadequate CCTV resolution, failures in electronic entry and ticketing systems, poor infrastructure for disabled spectators, and concerns regarding VAR facilities and structural roofing. Although the report notes some improvements compared to the previous year, police allege that some stadium administrations opted for temporary fixes rather than permanent solutions. Recommendations include the installation of stadium floor plans with camera locations in all CCTV control rooms to ensure proper oversight during the upcoming football season.
