Environmental department approves Peyia Beer Festival under strict conditions

The Peyia Beer Festival, held at Agios Georgios Square, was authorized to continue from Saturday through Sunday following an inspection by the Cyprus Environment Department. The event, organized by the Akamas municipality, faced scrutiny due to its proximity to Natura 2000 protected sites on the Akamas peninsula. To mitigate environmental impact, authorities imposed strict regulations concerning lighting, noise levels, and waste management. The stage must be positioned on the northern side facing southwest and fully covered to prevent light pollution directed toward the sea. The use of upward-facing spotlights or high-intensity equipment is prohibited to protect the local ecosystem, specifically the Toxeftra beach area. Sound systems must be calibrated to ensure noise does not disturb the nearby Akamas national forest park. The department warned that any breach of these conditions could result in the immediate termination of the festival. Future events will now require prior consultation and a established framework to address the area's ecological sensitivity.
