Restoration of religious monuments in northern Cyprus

The Bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage has overseen the restoration of several religious monuments in the northern part of Cyprus. According to committee co-chair Sotos Ktoris, six Maronite monuments, one Armenian church, and two Latin churches have been preserved so far. The completed Maronite projects include the churches of Saint Anne in Famagusta, Saints Marina and Theodore in Kormakitis, Saint Marina in Agia Marina Skyllouras, Holy Cross in Karpasia, Archangel Michael in Asomatos, and Saint George in Kormakitis. Additionally, the Armenian church in medieval Famagusta and the Latin churches of Saint George of the Latins and Our Lady of the Carmelites have been restored. Plans are currently underway for the restoration of the Armenian Monastery in Halevka. Historian Anna Marangou noted that the Armenian community has maintained a presence in Cyprus since the 8th century AD. The committee continues its efforts to protect the island's diverse religious cultural heritage.
