Cyprus and Lebanon initiate feasibility study for electrical interconnection

The Minister of Energy and Water of Lebanon, Joseph Al-Saddi, announced that Cyprus and Lebanon are pursuing an electrical interconnection project aimed at enhancing regional energy stability. This project could eventually link Lebanon to the European energy system via Cyprus. Both governments have formally requested that the World Bank conduct a preliminary feasibility study to assess the technical and economic viability of the interconnection. The World Bank will provide the funding for this study. The evaluation process is designed to proceed in two distinct stages. The first stage consists of a high-level economic analysis expected to last approximately six months, focusing on electricity supply and demand balance. Future decisions regarding the implementation of the project will depend on the outcomes of this initial phase.
