Minister of Education calls for unity regarding Cyprus issue
Cyprus Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, delivered a speech during a memorial service at the Cathedral of Saint Theodore in Paphos. The event honored those who died for democracy and freedom during the historical events of July 15 and 20. Michaelidou emphasized the necessity for national unity in supporting the President's efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue. She highlighted that current diplomatic mobility should be utilized to resume negotiations from where they were last interrupted. According to the Minister, a viable solution must align with United Nations resolutions, international law, and the European acquis. She further stated that the government aims to transform Cyprus into a truly independent and sovereign state. Additionally, she addressed the role of the education system in equipping children with the skills to advocate for the country's liberation and the protection of human rights. Her stated goal is to establish a European state where all citizens enjoy full rights.
