Customs enforcement actions at Larnaca Airport and Limassol

On July 7, 2026, customs officers at Larnaca Airport identified a couple of Russian-Cypriot dual citizens, aged 55 and 62, arriving from Switzerland via France with undeclared luxury goods. The items, which included two watches, clothing, and footwear valued at approximately 46,000 euros, resulted in a fine of 5,022 euros and the collection of 10,221 euros in duties and taxes. Separately, on July 20, 2026, a British national was detained at Larnaca Airport while attempting to travel to Birmingham with 44 cartons of undeclared, non-compliant cigarettes. The individual was released after paying a 2,800 euro settlement, and the tobacco was confiscated for destruction. Additionally, following a car chase on July 13 in Limassol, authorities discovered 4 kilograms of shisha tobacco, 37 cartons of cigarettes, and 450 grams of rolling tobacco in an abandoned vehicle. The driver of the Limassol vehicle remains at large. Furthermore, on July 15, customs officers in Limassol seized six bottles of cannabidiol oil from a shipping container arriving from Greece.
