Aristotle University students visit Cyprus on educational mission

From July 13 to July 18, eleven students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) participated in an educational mission to Cyprus, organized by the Press and Information Office (PIO). The participants were high-achieving students from the recently established Chair of Cypriot Studies at the AUTH Faculty of Law, led by Dr. Charalambos Alexandrou. This initiative follows a meeting held in March between Cypriot Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou and PIO Director Aliki Stylianou in Thessaloniki. During their visit, the students toured several historical and political sites, including the Makedonitissa Tomb, the Imprisoned Graves, the Ledra Palace hotel, the buffer zone, and areas along the ceasefire line in Nicosia. They also visited the fenced city of Famagusta, the Liopetri Barn, the Choirokoitia neolithic settlement, and the village of Lefkara. The itinerary included briefings on the 1955-1959 EOKA struggle, the 1974 Turkish invasion, and the ongoing territorial division of the island. Additionally, the group visited cultural landmarks such as the Cyprus Museum, the Byzantine Museum, and the Machairas Monastery.
