Marco Rubio calls for international cooperation on Strait of Hormuz security

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Sunday that the international community must pressure Iran to ensure the protection of shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. Rubio alleged that certain Iranian officials aim to control the strait as a geopolitical lever. He called on other nations to contribute resources or funding to assist the U.S. in patrolling the region. Regarding the June 17 agreement between Washington and Tehran, Rubio declared it effectively void following the resumption of hostilities in early July. Despite the breakdown of the agreement, he maintained that the United States remains open to diplomatic solutions. The statement was delivered before his departure for an international meeting in the Philippines.
