Cyprus and Greece to co-develop multicopter drones under the SAFE regulation

Cyprus and Greece have announced a joint project to develop and produce a multicopter drone under the European SAFE regulation. The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of the Cypriot National Guard and support the domestic defence industry. The planned drone is designed for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. While described primarily as a non-offensive system, reports indicate the device could be adapted for target-strike missions or converted into a first-person view (FPV) drone. The Greek partner company has a history of collaboration with Cypriot authorities, having previously supplied Edomon surveillance drones to the Cyprus Police. Additionally, Cyprus will be equipped with the 'Kentavros' anti-drone system. Developed by the Hellenic Aerospace Industry, this electronic warfare system is designed to neutralize threats from hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. The cooperation is being positioned as a strategic requirement for integrating modern drone technology into the defense framework of both nations.
