Cyprus Journalists Union condemns politician for attack on reporter
On July 13, 2026, during an episode of the 'Netcast Zone' podcast, ALMA party Member of Parliament Michalis Paraskevas publicly criticized journalist Frixos Dalitis. Paraskevas labeled Dalitis as a 'directed' propagandist serving political agendas, further claiming that some journalists lack independence. The Cyprus Journalists Union (ESK) issued a statement condemning these remarks as unsubstantiated, insulting, and a breach of professional ethics. The Union defended the 20-year career of Dalitis and characterized the MP's comments as bordering on harassment. Furthermore, the ESK demanded that Paraskevas retract his statements and called upon the leadership of the ALMA party to address the conduct of their member. In response to the Union's criticism, Paraskevas challenged the organization to address the issue directly. The ESK maintains that while public figures are subject to criticism, such discourse must be documented and respectful.
