UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to visit Cyprus from July 27 to 29, marking the first such visit since 2010. The mission aims to revive peace negotiations and explore the possibility of convening a five-party meeting. To facilitate this, UN Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin is conducting high-level consultations in Brussels and Ankara, including a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on July 24.

In parallel, significant coordination is underway between Nicosia and Athens. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides is set to meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens this Saturday to align their strategies. Additionally, the European Commission has appointed Raffaele Fitto as its new special representative for Cyprus; he has already initiated contacts with regional leaders and held talks with Holguin in Brussels to reaffirm EU support for the UN-led process.

During his visit, Guterres will hold separate meetings with President Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, followed by a joint meeting scheduled for July 29 at the Nicosia airport UN office. Diplomatic sources emphasize that while a window of opportunity exists, substantive results from these meetings are required to advance the political process.
