Data from the Cypriot Ministry of Interior regarding displaced persons

According to data from the 2025 Population Archive of the Cypriot Ministry of Interior, there are currently 247,552 Greek Cypriots living as displaced persons. This status dates back to their displacement during the events of July and August 1974. Over the past 52 years, four generations have resided in the country. The government initially established 69 housing settlements to accommodate the displaced population following the conflict. While these sites were intended to be temporary, many individuals from the first generation lived out their lives there. Today, the Ministry of Interior reports that the aging of infrastructure and shifting population demographics within these 69 settlements present ongoing challenges. The exact number of displaced individuals currently living in these specific government settlements remains unclear due to the passage of time and generational turnover.
