Floods and landslides cause casualties in India and Nepal

Heavy rains throughout the weekend have caused at least 25 deaths in northern and northeastern India due to floods and landslides. In the Indian-administered Kashmir region, officials reported at least 15 deaths across Poonch, Rajouri, and Doda districts, though one source specifically noted four deaths in Poonch and Rajouri as of July 19. In Nagaland, landslides resulted in 9 confirmed fatalities. Additionally, one death was reported in the state of Assam, where over 57,000 people have been affected by flooding. The India Meteorological Department expects active monsoon conditions to persist across northwestern, eastern, and northeastern regions for the next 6-7 days. Meanwhile, in neighboring Nepal, authorities reported that 27 people have died, one is missing, and 69 have been injured due to monsoon-related disasters since mid-June.
