Irish woman arrested at Gran Canaria airport for hotel bill fraud

A three-member family is accused of leaving a luxury hotel in San Bartolome de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, without paying a bill of approximately 2,100 pounds after an 11-day stay. Hotel staff reported the incident after discovering that the payment could not be processed via the credit card provided at booking and that the family could not be contacted. Local police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the mother, an Irish national, at the Gran Canaria airport passport control. The woman was apprehended shortly before boarding her return flight and was subsequently taken to the Maspalomas police station. During questioning, she claimed the unpaid bill was due to a technical issue with her bank card and a temporary lack of access to funds. Authorities rejected this explanation, charging her with fraud and referring the case to an investigating magistrate.
