Eurostat reports increase in construction output for May 2026

According to data released by Eurostat on Monday, construction output in the Eurozone and the European Union increased in May 2026 compared to April. Seasonally adjusted production rose by 0.4% in the Eurozone and 0.3% in the EU. On an annual basis, comparing May 2026 to May 2025, output increased by 1.2% in the Eurozone and 1.8% in the EU. Monthly sector analysis shows that in the Eurozone, building construction decreased by 0.7% and civil engineering by 0.5%, while specialized activities grew by 1.4%. EU-wide trends saw building construction fall by 0.4% and civil engineering by 1.3%. Austria led member state growth with a 3.3% increase, followed by the Netherlands at 2.0% and France at 1.3%. Conversely, Hungary experienced the largest monthly decline at 6.4%, followed by Spain at 2.8% and Slovenia at 1.9%.
