Developments in Paphos infrastructure projects

The award process for the first phase of the Paphos – Polis Chrysochous highway remains pending three months after financial bids were unsealed. The Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVE Paphos) President, Giorgos Mais, announced that the Minister of Transport will hold a meeting on July 30 to discuss both the Agia Marinouda – Stroumpi and Stroumpi – Polis Chrysochous sections. The two bids submitted in mid-April 2026 exceed 120 million euros, which is 30% higher than the initial estimated cost of 90.2 million euros excluding VAT. Evaluation is expected to conclude around September, potentially leading to direct negotiations with bidders or a new tender process. Meanwhile, the Konia road construction project in Paphos, managed by acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou, is nearing completion ahead of the original September schedule. Separately, there are reports of local opposition to the new airport-tourist area road due to concerns over reduced traffic and economic impact on existing communities. Additionally, maintenance works on the Larnaca – Ammochostos highway are scheduled until July 31, 2026.
