Independent investigator finds no wrongdoing in Videogate case

Independent criminal investigator Andreas Pashalidis has concluded that no criminal offenses occurred in the so-called Videogate case, dismissing the video evidence as non-substantive rhetoric. The Alma party, an opposition movement, has publicly rejected the findings, labeling them as predictable and politically motivated. Alma alleges that the timing of the report was convenient, coinciding with the third reappointment of Mr. Pashalidis as President of the Authority for the Supervision of Institutions for Pensions and the closure of the Parliament. The party further claimed that the report aims to facilitate the potential reinstatement of Mr. Charalambous to his former position as Director of the President's Office. Alma representatives argued that this reflects a broader pattern of state corruption in Cyprus, suggesting political favors are exchanged for electoral support for 2028. The administration has not issued a formal rebuttal to these specific accusations, though the investigation remains a point of contention between the parties.
