Car catches fire during drift race in Dasaki tis Achnas

On Saturday, July 18, a vehicle involved in a drifting competition at the Dasaki tis Achnas circuit overturned and caught fire. The incident occurred during the final stages of the event, specifically during a double-overtake maneuver, when the driver lost control and collided with safety tires. Emergency personnel on-site promptly extinguished the engine fire and assisted the driver, identified as Andreas, who escaped without any injuries. Event organizers and road safety experts emphasized that the car was brand new, fully inspected, and equipped with mandatory safety features, including an automated fire suppression system. The driver was also wearing all required protective gear for the race. Officials noted that the circuit is currently the only licensed track for motorsport in Cyprus and operates under strict safety protocols.
