Cyprus petrol station owners to protest against transport decree
The Cyprus Association of Liquid Fuel Station Owners has announced a protest march for July 21, 2026, starting at the GSP stadium parking lot and proceeding to the Presidential Palace. The association is seeking the direct intervention of President Nikos Christodoulides regarding a decree issued by the Minister of Transport. According to association chairman Savvas Prokopiou, the decree requires the immediate immobilization of 80 to 90 percent of fuel tankers due to new safety and ADR compliance standards. Owners argue that the infrastructure to certify these tankers is currently lacking and that a transition period is necessary to implement these changes. Although the association agrees with the safety goals in principle, they contend that the ministry failed to establish a proper certification process or grant requested extensions. The Cyprus Police have confirmed the protest route and reminded organizers of their obligations under the Public Gatherings and Parades Law 151(I) of 2025 to ensure the demonstration remains peaceful.
