European Commission report highlights need for stronger customs controls

Data for 2025 indicates that Austria, Slovenia, Luxembourg, and Cyprus performed over ten times better than the EU average in compliance checks. The Commission acknowledges the overall efforts of customs authorities but notes major discrepancies in enforcement performance between member states. Additionally, the European Commission has updated the EU Customs Union's list of prohibitions and restrictions. This updated tool is intended to provide greater legal clarity for businesses and authorities regarding goods entering or leaving the EU. These measures aim to ensure that only compliant products circulate within the Single Market.
