Opposition party akel criticizes the report on the Videogate scandal

The political party AKEL has launched a formal critique against the findings of the independent criminal investigator Andreas Pashalidis regarding the Videogate scandal. The investigation into the footage involving a former minister and associates of President Nikos Christodoulides found no criminal behavior, characterizing parts of the footage as edited material and "unsubstantiated claims." AKEL has accused Pashalidis of acting as a government spokesperson to protect the Presidential office and cited a potential conflict of interest due to his reappointment as head of the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Allegations and Complaints against the Police. The party contends that the report ignores public concerns regarding alleged political corruption, campaign funding irregularities, and access to the Presidential Palace. Lawyer Andreas Christou has also questioned the completeness of the report, noting that the claim of edited footage does not inherently invalidate the content or the claims made within the recordings. AKEL is now demanding the full publication of the investigative report to ensure transparency and public accountability.
