Debate intensifies over Videogate investigation report

An independent criminal investigation into the Videogate scandal, led by Andreas Pashalidis, has concluded that no criminal, ethical, or political liabilities were found regarding the conduct of two close associates of President Nikos Christodoulides. The opposition party AKEL has strongly condemned the findings, describing the report as a parody and accusing Pashalidis of acting like a government spokesperson to cover up corruption. AKEL has formally requested the full release of the report and an emergency parliamentary committee meeting to ensure transparency. The Democratic Rally (DISY) party also called for a thorough institutional review, emphasizing that all evidence must be examined by the Legal Service to determine if any offenses occurred. DISY further criticized the government for reappointing Pashalidis as the head of the Independent Authority for the Investigation of Allegations and Complaints against the Police (AADIPA), citing potential conflicts of interest. The Ecologists' Movement has joined the calls for the publication of the full report, questioning how the investigator found no evidence of influence peddling. Government officials maintain that the process followed established procedures, while AKEL argues the administration is attempting to absolve itself from responsibility.
