Four lives saved in cross-country kidney transplant chain in Israel

A 16-year-old girl from Cyprus was the focus of a complex kidney transplant chain at Beilinson Hospital in Israel, facilitated by the National Transplant Center. The 14-hour medical operation successfully saved four individuals of various religious backgrounds, including Muslims, Christians, and Jews. The chain was initiated by 52-year-old Asaf Mor from Hod HaSharon, who altruistically donated a kidney to the Cypriot teenager after her own mother was found to be an incompatible donor. In a subsequent exchange, the girl's mother donated a kidney to 27-year-old Hana Shaaban from Majd al-Krum, who had been awaiting a second transplant. The operation, which involved four pairs of donors and recipients, had been postponed twice due to regional security tensions involving Iran. All four recipients have been discharged following the successful procedures reported by Israel Hayom.
