Four patients saved in complex cross-border kidney transplant chain in Israel

A 16-year-old girl from Cyprus underwent a successful kidney transplant at Beilinson Hospital in Israel following two previous postponements, one of which was due to the conflict with Iran. The procedure was part of an altruistic domino transplant chain involving four pairs of donors and recipients. The chain began with 52-year-old Asaf Mor from Hod HaSharon, who donated a kidney to the 16-year-old. Because the teenager's mother was not a compatible donor for her daughter, she donated a kidney to 27-year-old Hana Shaaban, who had been on a waiting list for years. The remaining transplants involved two Arab citizens of Israel, completing a life-saving medical cycle that lasted over 12 hours, starting at 5:00 AM and ending at 7:00 PM. Participants included Jews, Christians, and Muslims, highlighting a rare instance of medical diplomacy. All four recipients have successfully recovered and have been discharged from the hospital.
